Fourth ‘Science Behind MRV4SOC’ Video Now Live

— 04 February 2026

In this interview, we meet Dr. Bas van Wesemael (PhD), Emeritus Professor in Physical Geography at UCLouvain (Belgium) and partner in MRV4SOC. He shares with us how soil organic carbon represents a powerful win-win solution for climate action, sustainable farming, and soil health.

We discussed with him the role of soil carbon and carbon farming in climate action and how MRV4SOC plays a significant role in this.  Dr. van Wesemael shares that his role focuses on data acquisition, remote sensing, and greenhouse gas modeling in aid of the main research, which studies the effect of carbon on climate mitigation.

Professor van Wesemael highlights the importance of the agricultural shift from a constant use of machinery and fertilizers towards sustainable solutions. He is incredibly inspired by the new generation of PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers and how they are working towards this goal.
