MRV4SOC at EGU25: AUTH and UCLouvain shared insights on soil carbon monitoring and modelling.

The MRV4SOC project was presented at the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2025, one of the world’s leading conferences for Earth and environmental sciences.

Two project partners showcased MRV4SOC’s latest research on soil organic carbon (SOC) monitoring:

  • Dimitra Palantza (AUTH) presented the poster “Integrating Remote Sensing and AI Modelling in Mediterranean Agroforestry and Cropland Systems” to introduce the robust framework for spatially explicit monitoring of soil properties and Above Ground Biomass (AGB) in Mediterranean agroforestry and cropland systems. The methodology integrates remote sensing (RS) and artificial intelligence (AI) to support carbon farming strategies.

  • Marmar Sabetizadeh (UCLouvain) shared her work titled “Assessing Soil Organic Carbon Dynamics Across Croplands and Grasslands”, based on the application of the RothC model to analyse SOC dynamics across two land uses in Wallonia, Belgium – croplands and grasslands – under varying carbon input scenarios.

Their participation highlighted MRV4SOC’s scientific contribution to climate-smart land management and carbon farming.

Both posters are available on our Resources page.
